How to Choose a Tieguanyin Oolong Base for Milk Tea

Choose the tea that keeps the intended aroma, body and finish after milk, sweetener and ice are added, not simply the tea that tastes strongest in water.

Start with the finished drink

Define whether the menu role is fresh and aromatic, rich and creamy, deeply roasted, or complex and seasonal. Record the milk system, cup size, ice, sugar and expected holding time before selecting the tea.

Compare four launch directions

DirectionWorking roleStarting applications
TG-01 Light AromaFloral lift and clean finishFresh milk tea, light fruit tea, cold drinks
TG-02 Rich AromaRounded body and milk presenceClassic milk tea, oat latte, brown sugar
TG-03 Aged AromaMature and dried-fruit associationsHot drinks, plum and dessert concepts
TG-04 Charcoal RoastDeep roast and caramel structureThick milk, cheese foam, cocoa

Test in the actual milk system

  1. Keep tea-soup weight, milk, syrup, ice and final weight constant.
  2. Evaluate aroma, body, astringency, finish and separation.
  3. Repeat observations at 0, 15 and 30 minutes.
  4. Change one variable at a time in the next round.

Quick decision rule

Use light aroma for floral lift, rich aroma for body, charcoal roast for strong dairy or brown-sugar systems, and aged-aroma concepts for a more specialized development path.
